How To Keep Weight Off After You Lost It

Many people suffer from the problem of regaining weight after they lost it to the point that they become demotivated to try again, the only way to get around this is to adopt the right behaviors that I'm going to share with you in this blog post

  1. Weight Loss Is A Practice And Not A One Time Limited Mission:

The scenario that happens is as follows: you want to lose weight, so you adopt a new diet, new activities and new habits that make it possible for you to lose weight, but once you reach this goal you give up this lifestyle and return back to the old one in the hope that you will stay fit, but unfortunately you start regaining weight without paying too much attention to it and start complaining after that.

So to avoid this case scenario you must understand that weight loss is more than a time limited mission, it's a lifestyle that you have to maintain overtime if you want to stay in shape, this means that before even trying to embark in a weight loss journey you will need to be ready to change your old habits and replace them with new ones.

  2. Think In Terms Of Small Changes Instead Of  Big Ones:

Another mistake that many people make is trying to rush things, their only obsession is to lose weight as fast as possible, this is not a good idea and most probably they will end up regaining all the pounds, but why?

It's because such people adopt destructive diets by eating little food, consequently their metabolism slows down dramatically and they feel tired and sleepy all the time, they will soon give up this way of living because it's so painful and hard to maintain, what will happen next is easy to predict: because their metabolism was very slow in the first place, they will rapidly regain weight once they return to their old diets, and start complaining why is this the case.

So the lesson here is to go progressively and step by step when embarking in a weight loss journey, normally it takes 6 months to attain your goal. Another good idea that helped me and many people I know is to enroll in a weight loss plan, I recommend This Program  since it has a mobile app and helps you maintain your weight but you can still do it yourself if you want.

3. When loosing weight keep record of all the things you're doing:

It helps a lot to have a notebook where you keep record of all the habits that made it possible for  you to lose weight, write down everything you can think of, it could be what you ate, when you ate, what type of exercises were you doing, how much time were you exercising, how many hours of sleep you had. but why all this?

It's because you will have a set of actions that make up the ideal lifestyle where you can maintain your weight, so try to model your habits on this set of actions and you will more likely maintain the extra pounds off. I hope you got my idea if anything is not clear leave me a comment.

4. Try to embark in your weight loss journey with somebody else:

It's always better to join a weight loss network, it could be one person or a group it doesn't matter, the point here is as follows: by supporting each other we are more likely to persevere and work towards our goals, not only that but once we lost all the extra-pounds, we will be held accountable to maintain our weight.

You will tell yourself: "if my buddy is still in shape, there is no reason for me to regain weight and vice versa".

5. Exercise regularly:

A bad idea is to stop exercising after you feel you reached your weight loss goal, let me explain why?

It's because exercising helps you have a fast metabolism which is associated with burning more calories, what happens when you give up physical activity is easy to understand: overtime your metabolism starts slowing down but you keep eating the amounts of food you did before causing you to restore fat, and thus gaining weight.

So the lesson is to try to have some kind of physical activity every day, I'm not talking here about intense training, it could be a walk for example.

If you're confused about what to do when exercising, you can find plans on the internet that suit your needs, here are 2 books that contain a list of the most effective exercises For Men and For Women

6. Find you ideal sleeping time:

Yes sleeping in some cases can be the problem, sleeping too much can a be a cause to weight gain, this is why you want to avoid it, but this does not mean that you will have to minimize your sleeping hours to the point where it will become unhealthy, you want to find an ideal amount of sleep allowing you wake up without feeling fatigue since fatigue can lead to stress and thus your body will release the cortisol hormone which is associated with weight gain. In order to avoid all of these problems you will need to adjust your sleeping time(between 7 to 9 hours in general).

If you're having a hard time experiencing a restoring and restful sleep I recommend you read This Book  since it has helped many people I Know who suffered from sleeping disorders.

7. Pay attention to what you eat:

Some times, you don't even pay attention to what gets into your mouth, and this can be a cause to weight gain, what you must do, is try to organize you eating times (3 or 4 times per day it's up to you) along the day and stick to that program by not eating in between them, but you can still drink low sugar coffee or tea since they don't impact dramatically your daily calorie intake.

Speaking of your daily calorie intake you will have to find a the right amount of energy your body needs every day , you can get an approximation of that by using This Calculator but measure constantly your weight and  analyse what's happening to adjust your intake.

Sometimes weight gain can be caused by muscle growth which means that your body will need more calories than it did before and not the opposite, so pay attention to that.
